Hi Reader!

Embracing the beauty of imperfection has been a transformative journey for me. Today marks a significant milestone—the release day of my book, ‘Naked in the Now: Juicy Practices for Getting Present.’ Reflecting on this milestone reminds me of the journey that led me here and the invaluable lessons I’ve learned.

Last week, I hinted at a concept that has profoundly shifted my approach to work and life: taking imperfect action. I first learned this idea long ago when I embraced living imperfectly but with great delight. But that only partially translated to work! Recently, I relearned this term from marketing guru Amy Porterfield, and it’s been my guiding light as I navigated the daunting world of digital marketing and book promotion.

I had to learn a lot—how to develop social media content, create engaging reels and posts, and even use tools like Canva to design eye-catching visuals. The process was uncomfortable, and I often stumbled in the dark. But then I remembered those empowering words: ‘Be willing to take imperfect action.’ Suddenly, the weight of perfectionism lifted, and I found the courage to try, fail, and try again. I embraced the discomfort of judgment and criticism, learning again that growth lies on the other side of fear. And I watched my beautiful toddler granddaughters try all kinds of new things with no fear of not being perfect—only joy in practicing.

As I floundered through the marketing maze, I realized that imperfection is not a flaw but a beautiful invitation to growth and learning. It’s about moving forward, even when the path is uncertain, and finding joy. In my book, a line resonates deeply with this philosophy: ‘It’s one of life’s great ironies; to be happy, we need to push the edges of our discomfort and foray into new experiences.’ Taking imperfect action is the perfect way to practice this principle.

Today, as I celebrate the release of ‘Naked in the Now,’ I invite you to reflect on your journey. What have you been hesitating to start because of the fear of imperfection? Whether it’s a creative project, a new hobby, or a personal goal, I encourage you to take that brave first step. Remember, every successful journey begins with a single, imperfect action.

I’m excited to share a little video clip of my granddaughter, Juney, learning to jump and finally catching a little air. She delighted in the process, and her mindset was contagious!
